Shadow Boxing – How Important?
Shadow boxing is one of the best exercises to achieve actual boxing in its complete form.
Liken to choreography of a play on the stage in the theatre. Shadow boxing is one of the only practices in boxing that brings all components of learning in boxing together as one, if carried out correctly.
The term shadow boxing does not do the action of shadow boxing justice at all. If given a choice choreography of boxing should be the phrase used, to describe the action of shadow boxing. That then would give the activity of shadow boxing far more importance. So top of the list of boxing activities to master and master well.
To put it into perspective would be to say, if in a play on the stage how good would the play be without any choreography? Diabolical to say the least! Well how can boxers effectively carry out a perfected boxing display, if not achieving this simple task to the point of mastery? Now understand the idea in this article is not to contradict trainers and coaches in the systems they have in affect.
Having been locally out and about finding out what goes on in the boxing gyms. Knowing that many boxers are not learning this activity or not in understanding of how important shadow boxing really is, to achieve carrying out competent boxing. Witnessing from first hand experience the actual absence of shadow boxing in some of the boxing gyms, I have reached locally. Something that was paramount when I myself was completely competitively submerged in the sport of boxing.
It is only in shadow boxing that one can imagine the opponent having attacking and defending moves played out through the rounds. Where counter actions can be practiced without an actual opponent striking or even the threat of being hut like when in sparring, (sparring meaning: in the ring against an opponent in the boxing gym ring, usually a club mate).
There is a hesitancy following through all actions effectively to the point of mastery, if under threat of being punched in the face every time if throwing incorrectly.
Which undermines the potential at hand by not completing actual punch moves or stance positioning correctly. When shadow boxing there is no threat existing, having no opponent. Which then removes the ‘ being hut factor ‘ draw back so important ring movement abilities and punching effectiveness are able to have mastery at any level.
Mindset produces hesitancy, which derives from the thought of or the fact of having been sparring already missing target when throwing punches, so caught by counter punches. Which will slow anyone from completing effectively choreography of boxing. Resulting in being defensively over enhanced to be able too focus on carrying out punch moves, as well as perfecting ring mobility at all.

Is Shadow Boxing Good for Obese Kids?
Shadow boxing is a great workout for obese kids to lose weight. When you are throwing punches you are forcing yourself to exercise and tone your body. But many don’t know that shadow boxing is also a very intense workout that creates a fat burning sensation in your body.
When you are throwing punches you are working many parts of your body that don’t ordinarily get exercised. As a former boxer I would workout for three rounds as a warm-up before doing any strenuous exercises. Shadow boxing can also be fun for kids because kids have imagination that they can use to motivate and inspire them. Imagine that they are hitting their bully friends or their enemies with punches. This can add more intensity to the workout and can give them the desire to complete a full 3 rounds.
Three rounds every other day can be a total weight loss workout that is equal to 1 to 2 miles of running. But the best thing about this exercise is the relationship you will have with your body. Many kids or even adults don’t like to even look at themselves because of shame. But shadow boxing will make you look and learn your own body and notice what needs to be worked on. After a good workout you’ll begin to see a difference in your body that can be noticed and observed by only you.
Once you start this routine your kid will become more conscious about their shape and will learn to work on trouble areas that need to be addressed. Boxing has made many overweight people take a second look and figure out ways to tone and lose fat stomachs or flabby arms. Shadow boxing also builds self esteem.
It takes several rounds before a person can really feel comfortable punching at their own body, at first you kid may even feel foolish doing this exercise but make them preserver and don’t quit because the benefits are awesome. Believe it or not but girls are becoming better at shadow boxing than boys because girls are naturally more intense about their bodies than boys are.
If parents are looking for a convenient at home exercise that is a true weight loss workout that will tone their bodies and add the lean athletic look then shadow boxing is the workout that is best for kids that are tire of being fat.

What a Shadow Boxing Workout Can Do For You! A Completely Free Workout!
When I was a kid, I used to drive my mother nuts because EVERY time I was in front of a mirror, I’d practice my combos by shadow boxing. I’d run through my routine until I had it perfected and everything looked smooth and blazing fast.

Shadow boxing allows you to have a proper feel for your punches and weight transfers. One of the best ways to develop balance in your boxing stance is by throwing punches that don’t hit anything. This will enable you to tell if you’re throwing your punches too hard or too wild. Developing balance calls on much more muscles to work to be properly balanced. The more muscles called on, the greater the chances of weight loss!
My trainer, when we did mitt work, would sometimes intentionally pull away the mitt when I threw a punch to make sure that I stayed balanced while I threw my punch. It replicated how many times in a fight, your opponent will slip and avoid your punches. If you are off balanced when he avoids your punches, you’ll be left wide open for a painful counter shot.
Shadow Boxing Requirements
The great thing about a shadow boxing workout is that 99% of those reading this will not need one single piece of equipment for their routine since most of us already have a mirror in their house.
That’s all that is really needed, a mirror. The mirror should be a body length mirror so you can see how your body moves and reacts to every punch and movement you make. You’ll want to make sure you are smooth and performing the proper techniques.

A shadow boxer allows you to add resistance training to your routine. As you may know, resistance training is highly recommended in any type of workout these days due to the fact that it is easier on the joints and it allows for negative muscle work. By negative muscle work it means that when you are going with gravity (such as when you are bench pressing and you lower the weight to your chest) there is still a form of resistance that allows you to work the muscles.
